Genre, Target Audience and Initial Ideas - Shane Marshall

Genre

I have chosen to make my film trailer based on the horror genre. I’ve have worked in this genre before and already have some knowledge of the codes and conventions. I feel that I will be able to produce a horror film to a higher standard than any other genre, because I have worked on that before.

Target Audience

The primary target audience for my horror film is going to be young adults, male and female, typically between the ages of 18 and 24. Our secondary target audience would be adults aged over 24. This is because the certificate of horror films is usually 15 or 18, making the films unsuitable for people under that age range. The films would generally contain gore and horror, which is one of the primary reasons for the certificate of the genre being so high.

Initial Ideas

As I’ve chosen to make a film trailer in the horror genre the idea I’ve chosen to create is a stalking killer horror. In my trailer the killer will have escaped from a mental asylum and will be looking for revenge on the people that framed him and made him out to be crazy whilst pleading his innocence. To get even and be at peace he believes the best thing to do is risk his life to end the life of the two people that ruined his.
